240+ Strong: The WorkCare Nurses Behind Every Safe Workday

April 7, 2026 | On-site Work Safety

WorkCare celebrates OHN Week 2026 by honoring our 240+ occupational health nurses, the skilled specialists quietly powering workforce health across every industry, every day.

WorkCare has more than 240 nurses working across the country. They are among the most skilled, specialized, and underrecognized professionals in healthcare, and during Occupational Health Nurses Week, we are proud to celebrate every one of them.

Occupational Health Nurses Week, observed April 5–11, was created to recognize a specialty that quietly powers workforce health across the country. This week belongs to a team that spans every corner of occupational health nursing, from on-site clinicians and telehealth nurses to case managers, nurse practitioners, and specialists of every kind.

WorkCare’s occupational health nurses bring a depth of experience that goes well beyond a single specialty. Many spent years in fast-moving clinical settings before bringing that experience into the workplace.

You will find them embedded at customer facilities across the country, serving as the primary clinical resource for entire workforces. They answer late-night telehealth calls, helping employees and their supervisors navigate injuries with clarity and confidence. Their most important work is often invisible. Not because it goes unnoticed, but because when occupational health nurses do their jobs well, there is no fanfare or hoopla.

They work in industries ranging from manufacturing and construction to pharmaceuticals, logistics, and beyond. Wherever there are employees, there is a role for an occupational health nurse. WorkCare’s team proudly shows up for all of it. Understanding why starts with understanding what occupational health nursing actually is.

Occupational health nursing is a specialty that resists easy description. Not because it is complicated to explain, but because the depth of it only becomes clear when you see it up close. It sits at the intersection of clinical care, workforce strategy, and regulatory expertise. It is not a single skill. It is a layered, demanding specialty that requires nurses to think like clinicians, communicate like advocates, and act like partners to both the employee and the employer. That combination is rare. And it is exactly what every workforce needs.

When something goes wrong at work, WorkCare’s nurses are often the first voice an employee hears. That first conversation matters deeply. It brings clarity to a stressful moment and helps ensure that employees get the right care, and that employers have the information they need to support a full recovery.

Every occupational health nurse has a story about why they chose this specialty over every other path available to them. We asked members of the WorkCare nursing team to share theirs.

“I chose occupational health nursing after experiencing a work-related injury that gave me firsthand insight into the importance of workplace safety and proper care. That experience inspired me to help prevent injuries and support others through recovery with compassion and understanding. I am passionate about promoting health, safety, and well-being so workers can thrive both on and off the job.”

— Cindi Lemm, occupational health nurse, WorkCare

“I became a nurse so that I could advocate, educate, and promote well-being in everyday life. I specialized in occupational health to continue that mission of supporting, educating, and protecting people where they spend most of their lives.”

— Stella Torres, occupational health nurse, WorkCare

Stories like these are at the heart of what WorkCare’s nursing team represents. Not just a specialty, but a deliberate commitment to the health and well-being of the people who keep the workforce running.

To every nurse on the WorkCare team: the work you do is seen and very much appreciated. The injuries that did not happen, the employees who came back stronger, the workdays that went exactly as planned because someone was paying attention. Those outcomes exist because of you. This week is a small acknowledgment of something you do every single day. We are proud to have you on our team.
